The District finally has a brew to call its own. Brandon Skall, Brau's business manager, and Jeff Hancock, Brau's brewmaster, founded the acclaimed microbrewery in 2009, establishing the brand with their debut pale ale "The Public." Since the company's inception, DC Brau has earned numerous titles and awards such as "Best Local Brewery" by the Washington City Paper, "Gold Medal for Robust Porter" by Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition, and "2nd Place Best Can Design" at the Brewer's Association Craft Brewers Conference. DC Brau also takes pride in their green initiatives - all of the brewery's waste is delivered to a family-owned farm in Virginia, where it is converted into animal feed and composting material - and their involvement in the DC community. They have established a partnership with DC United, routinely donate to local charities like Bread for the City, and host weekly Growler Hours, where DC locals can take a tour of the brewery and sip on The Public, The Corruption, The Citizen, and several other brew samples. Look out for DC Brau's seasonal special collaborative brews this winter including The Model Citizen, an American cream ale, and the Exaltation, a limited-release holiday ale.
